What are dentures?
Dentures are removable prostheses designed to replace lost teeth comfortably and naturally.

Am I a candidate for dentures?
The need for dentures will depend on your current oral health, as will the type of denture needed. To properly wear any dentures, patients must have healthy gum tissue and a healthy jawbone. To decide which option is best for you, call Polk Dental Associates to schedule a consultation.

How will Snap-On Dentures affect my eating?
Due to the posts that hold Snap-On Dentures in place, no covering over the palate of your mouth is required. This allows you to fully experience the tastes and temperature of your food, bringing you back to a better quality of life. An additional bonus: Snap-On Dentures do not slide around as you chew. They are fixed in place and make eating a pleasure.

Are you seeing patients?
Polk Dental Associates is open and continues to follow the highest level of COVID-19 safety precautions, adhering to CDC and Texas DSHS guidelines while caring for our patients.

How often should dentures be cleaned?
A stiff denture-cleaning brush and diluted dish soap solution should be used for cleaning the dentures a minimum of two times per day.  Commercially produced denture cleaning effervescent tablets may be used as an additional aid for cleaning the dentures.

Can I use toothpaste to clean my dentures?
Never use toothpaste or mouth rinse for cleaning the dentures as they may abrade or stain the dentures.

What are clear aligners?
Clear aligners are thin, removable plastic mouthpieces that secure closely to your teeth and gently move them into the correct position. Your dentist might recommend them to improve the appearance of your smile, adjust your bite, make it easier for you to brush and floss, or all of the above.

Popular examples of clear aligners include Invisalign and SureSmile, though there are numerous other brands.

Am I a candidate for clear aligner treatment?
Clear aligners are typically used for patients with mild to moderate teeth crowding or minor alignment or spacing issues. Patients who have severe crowding or spacing problems, or severe underbites, overbites, or crossbites, may require more complex treatment.

Clear aligners are best for adults or teenagers. Straightening a child’s teeth is more complicated — children, and their mouths, are constantly developing, and younger kids may struggle with having attachments on teeth and remaining compliant with maintaining the condition of aligners.

What Services Does a General Dentist Provide?
General dentists provide a wide array of services, including:

  • Preventative services. These services help you maintain good oral health by stopping disease before it takes hold in your mouth.
  • Restorative services. The most common dental restoration provided by general dentists involves removing tooth decay and placing a filling in the cavity in the affected tooth.
  • Cosmetic dentistry procedures. Many general dentists can help you get the sparkling smile you’ve always wanted with a range of cosmetic procedures. These include teeth whitening, porcelain veneers, cosmetic bonding, and clear aligners.
  • Overall health concerns. In many respects, your oral health can be seen as a mirror of your general health. Some dental problems may reflect issues in other parts of your body, and vice versa.
